Egypt’s seas, studied in English and Arabic
This 1973 bulletin from Egypt’s Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, published in Cairo, presents original research in illustrated English studies and a separately oriented Arabic section.
The story
Egypt’s Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries, part of the national Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, used this bulletin to publish its scientists’ work on the region’s waters and the fish in them. This is the third volume, printed in Cairo by the government printing offices in 1973.
The papers deal with fish populations, fishing and the environments fish live in, backed by statistical tables, diagrams and maps; among the studies cited from this volume are one on what Nile fish feed on and one on how tilapia breed. The book is also two books in one. Open it from the front and the English papers begin; turn it over and open it from the back cover, and an Arabic section with its own title page reads from right to left.
This copy is in a black institutional cloth binding, much worn and peeling along the spine and joints, with a library WITHDRAWN stamp and an older stamp that has been blacked out. A line in it records the compliments of the Institute’s director, Dr. A. A. Al-Kholy.
