Paul Radin goes to Oaxaca to collect the folklore
A volume of Oaxacan folklore collected by Paul Radin.
The story
The folklore in this volume was gathered in Oaxaca, in southern Mexico, by Paul Radin, and published by Aurelio M. Espinosa. Its title page shows how many hands it took to bring out. It appeared in the Anales of the International School of American Archaeology and Ethnology, the Escuela Internacional de Arqueología y Etnología Americanas, with the cooperation of the Hispanic Society of America; G. E. Stechert & Co. of New York is named on the imprint; and it was printed in Havana, at the press of Aurelio Miranda.
The text is in Spanish and the stories are numbered. On page 188, under the running head Cuentos de animales, “animal tales”, number 93 begins: El gallo y el…, which opens with a rooster in a henhouse. A reader gets the tales themselves, gathered into one book.
This copy is in its printed paper wrappers, the front one repeating the wording of the title page, with the title on the spine. The record gives no date of publication.
