Journals of the Continental Congress, 1774–1789 (Vols. IV, VII and IX only)
The story
Three early twentieth-century Library of Congress volumes preserve edited records of the Continental Congress during pivotal phases of the American Revolution.
This incomplete group comprises Volume IV (January 1–June 4, 1776), Volume VII (January 1–May 21, 1777), and Volume IX (October 3–December 31, 1777). Edited by Worthington Chauncey Ford from manuscripts held by the Library of Congress, the series was printed in Washington by the Government Printing Office between 1904 and 1937. The journals document legislative decisions, military administration, diplomacy, and the practical workings of the Continental Congress. These are original early twentieth-century scholarly publications, not contemporaneous Revolutionary War printings. A copy-specific name stamp provides a possible, as yet unverified, connection to a twentieth-century congressman.
