The story

Mikhail V. Condoide's 1946 study examines the Soviet foreign-trade monopoly and its implications for commercial relations with the United States.

Published by the Bureau of Business Research at Ohio State University, the book appeared when wartime cooperation was giving way to increasing postwar tension between Washington and Moscow. It describes Soviet trading structures, trade policy, international exchange, and the economic obstacles facing American merchants. Period tables and graphs document trade activity and patterns. The book is useful as a contemporary source on American perspectives on Soviet economic organization at the outset of the Cold War, rather than simply as a retrospective history.
