Roosevelt’s ranching years in the Dakota Territory, in one volume of a fourteen-volume set
This Collier’s Executive Edition volume holds Hunting Trips of a Ranchman and Hunting Trips on the Prairie and in the Mountains, with a Roosevelt portrait frontispiece. It is one standalone volume, not the original printings of the two titles.
The story
Theodore Roosevelt’s years of ranching and hunting in the Dakota Territory did much to shape the way the public saw him: the vigorous outdoorsman and conservationist. Hunting Trips on the Prairie and in the Mountains and Hunting Trips of a Ranchman are his own accounts of that western life, told by a rancher and a sportsman.
Collier’s collected edition of his Works, in fourteen volumes, gathered the two into this single illustrated volume, with Roosevelt’s portrait at the front. A reader gets him in his own words on ranch life and the hunt in the West, and a collector with a broken set of the Executive Edition gets a missing volume.
This copy is in the publisher’s dark blue cloth, with an embossed TR monogram and the title in gilt on the spine. The foot of the spine is worn and lightly rubbed, and there is no jacket. The record has not confirmed the date of printing, or that the volume is complete.
